Is a primer necessary to cover spackled filled nail holes when repainting dry wall?

yes primer is needed if you do not use primer on the spackle you will get what is called a flash! when the paint drys you will see where you spackled at, priming will help hide the spot after the paint is aplied, now if you dont want to go buy primer and trying to save money, you can use paint instead of primer. just make sure when you cover the patched spot with the paint that you feather the edges , so when you go to put the final coat of paint on it wont show threw. its called spot primeing plus make sure the paint is dry on the patshed spot b-4 you put the final coat onIs a primer necessary to cover spackled filled nail holes when repainting dry wall?
That is not a great job and do recommend using a small paint brush and brushing on a primer to cover the nail heads.. I am assuming that you have alrerady primed the wall and the nails came afterwards.. If this is not the case.. then prime the whole wall once before you paint it the first coat.Is a primer necessary to cover spackled filled nail holes when repainting dry wall?
Actually, you CAN get away with not priming if you are willing to retouch the spackled areas a few times. The first coat is gonna soak pretty good into the spackle, and that's why you'd need to hit the spots again. I know priming is proper, but i'm just saying it can be done...
Yes! if you just paint, it will flash through. The primer will need a light sanding before painting. If in a bath or kitchen, use oil based primer. Otherwise latex is fine.
Absolutely, drywall mud and Spackle are very absorbant and will suck up paint like a sponge and leave a dull patch when viewed from certain angles.Newly applied mud/Spackle should be in two coats and must be sanded BEFORE priming.Make sure the primer you use is PVC based primer to ensure a proper sealing and no sanding is needed after priming.paint and enjoy!
